A little J.K. Rowling to start the week

As most of my older followers know, I LOVE Harry Potter. I think J.K. Rowling is a genius. One thing that a lot of people overlook, are the little pearls of wisdom she sprinkled throughout her books. Here's one to start off the week:

"It is our choices... that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities." -- J.K. Rowling

Isn't that true? I know extremely talented people who just don't have the drive or dedication to make something of themselves; whereas I also I know people who maybe don't have as much natural talent who bust their butts and become incredible at what they're pursuing.

I know people who had amazing potential for good, but made choices that took them down paths of greed and selfishness and destroyed their potential. I also know people who were raised in enviroments where everything was against them, and they rose above it all and became amazing people who touch more lives for good than they could ever realize.

To put a little spin on the quote, it is our choices who MAKE us who we are.

What do you think?

I would have to agree. Our choices can limit our opportunites or open new doors. Wow, how intimidating is that? Sometimes I really feel the pressure of making the correct choices; other times I know what I ultimately want and the choices are easy. I suppose it comes down to staying focused on the big picture. Oh and I agree about J.K. Rowling also--she is a genius!

I particularly love that quote--it's so true. And I love the moment in the book where it occurs. It really boils down the entire theme of the series.

I totally found several quotes from her books that I thought were very profound. Great post.

Ah, I love starting the week of with a little JKR :) And I totally agree with you. In all aspects of life, and as writers. We make the choice every day on whether or not we're going to train in our craft, to push ourselves to grow and create.

I couldn't agree more! It's all about what we choose that makes us into who we are, and where we are in life.

This is a splice of life I teach my kids. Don't look to your circumstances or to someone else to make you who you are. YOU have the power, and it's a shame if you don't use it.

Oh, I do so love that quote! And I agree. My choices have brought me to where I am now and I wouldn't change a thing, even if some of them were "crazy" choices. I did what was best for me!
